Biography

Russell E. “Gene” Tynes age 69 of Summersville, SC formally of Linn, Mo passed away Wednesday March 25, 2009 in South Carolina.

Mr. Tynes was born March 12, 1940 in Linn to the late Russell E. Tynes and Leola Eunice (Jett) Tynes who survives of Westphalia, MO. Gene was a US Army veteran serving as a Company Commander in the 317th Engineer Battalion in Germany following completion of his Airborne Training at Fort Benning, GA. Following military service, Mr. Tynes worked in several architectural practices in the southeast prior to accepting a position with Gresham-Smith Partners in Nashville, Tn, where he was responsible for their hospital design division. In the early 1970’s Gene served as an architect for Gresham-Smith when they started a new office in Charleston, SC, where he later formed Tynes Associates, Inc.

Mr. Tynes community involvement was extensive. He was a member of the Rotary Club of North Charleston and was selected to become the Charter President of the Rotary Club of North Charleston-Breakfast. He served Rotary District 7770 as a District Conference Chairman, Assistant District Governor and was presented a Paul Harris Fellow by his Rotary Club for Service Above Self. Gene was a member and Emeritus Architect of the American Institute of Architects (AIA). He was a member of the Board of Visitors for Charleston Southern University, SCANA Advisory Board and the Ashepoo Hunt Club. He received the volunteer of the year award from the Dorchester County Economic Development Board and served as President of the Trident Business Association.

In addition to his mother, Gene is survives by his wife Judy of Summersville, SC, two daughters, Lesley O’Brien and her husband Mike of Winter Park, FL and Dr. Heather Roselli and her husband Joe of Nashville, TN and their children Liam, Trevor and Neil. Two sisters, Faye Schmitz of Jefferson City and Fern Bunch of Linn and one brother Roger Tynes of Uniontown, OH.

Visitation will be from 6-8pm Wednesday, April 1, 2009 at Morton Chapel in Linn.

Graveside services will be 11am Thursday, April 2, 2009 at the Linn Public Cemetery
