Anna Catherine Backes

Anna C. Backes, age 92, of Loose Creek passed away Saturday, November 28, 2009 at St. Mary's Health Center in Jefferson City.

Anna was born on November 4, 1917 in Loose Creek, a daughter of the late Theodore and Josephine (Scheulen) Kremer.

Anna attended the Immaculate Conception Catholic School in Loose Creek.

On July 26, 1938 she was united in marriage to Lawrence H. Backes in Loose Creek. He preceded her in death on March 29, 1985.

Anna was a homemaker and also worked alongside her husband in their poultry processing plant and farming business until Lawrence's retirement in 1972.

Anna enjoyed spending time with her family, quilting, and embroidering. She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Loose Creek, and the St. Ann's Sodality.

Survivors include three sons: Sylvester and his wife Evelyn Backes, Francis Backes and his special friend Elaine Lock, and Gerald and his wife Elaine Backes all of Loose Creek; four daughters; Agnes Uplinger and her husband Ken of Loose Creek, Mary Cavanaugh and her husband John of Brighton, MI, Lorene Herigon and her husband Joe of Jefferson City, and Angie Muenks and her husband Richard of Loose Creek; one sister, Josephine Backes of Loose Creek; 16 grandchildren, 1 step grandchild, 23 great grandchildren, 6 step great grandchildren, and 2 step great-great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, Anna was preceded in death by one grandchild, Matthew Muenks; two brothers, Henry Kremer and Peter Kremer, and two sisters, Mary Rustemeyer and Pauline Rustemeyer.

Visitation will be from 4:00 pm-7:30 pm Tuesday, December 1, 2009 at the Morton Chapel in Linn.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 am Wednesday, December 2, 2009 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Loose Creek with Fr. Thomas J. Seifner as the Celebrant. Interment will follow at the Immaculate Conception Church Cemetery.
