Bernadine M. Pope, age 89, of Rich Fountain, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 21, 2025, at Westphalia Hills in Westphalia, surrounded by her loving family.
Bernadine was born on April 27, 1936, in Rich Fountain, a daughter to the late Henry and Mary (Radmacher) Mengwasser.
She attended Sacred Heart School.
On June 25, 1960, she was united in marriage to Frank C. Pope at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Rich Fountain. Frank preceded her in death on December 14, 1998.
Bernadine was a dedicated homemaker, and once her children were raised, she went to work at Quaker Windows in Freeburg. She passed on to her children her strong work ethic.
She was a lifelong member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Rich Fountain.
Bernadine enjoyed doing word search puzzles, watching Hallmark and the Bold & the Beautiful, cooking her homemade chicken noodle soup, baking her famous chocolate chip cookies/pies, and embroidering tea towels for the parish. Her greatest enjoyment was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Bernadine is survived by her six children, Joe Pope of Freeburg, Dale (Tammy) Pope of Freeburg, Greg Pope of Freeburg, Marilyn (Chris) Umstattd of Jefferson City, Sheila (Brian) Luebbert of Rich Fountain, and Debbie (Matt) Graham of Eugene; thirteen grandchildren, Brody and Ayla Graham, Colby Luebbert (friend Tori and daughters, Mia and Sophia) and Wyatt Luebbert, Amy (Caleb) Kemna, Brittany Pope, Zach (Denise) Pope, Ryan (Abbey) Pope, Trevor Pope, Erika (Timmy) Schwartze, Matthew (Tara) Pope, Megan (Scott) Douglas, Jordan (Dalton) Dodson; five great-grandchildren; Bentley, Harper, Grace, Liam, and Aaliyah; one brother, Norbert Mengwasser of Rich Fountain; three sisters-in-law, Leona Mengwasser of Jefferson City, Emma Scheulen of Linn and Doris Lewis of Jefferson City; two brothers-in-law, Leonard Voss of Linn, Walter Schwartz of Argyle; along with many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband of thirty-eight years, Bernadine was preceded in death by seven brothers, three sisters, and her loyal dog, Oscar.
Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 26, 2025, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Rich Fountain with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. William D. Debo as the Celebrant. Interment will follow in Sacred Heart Parish Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to the wishes of the family.
