Carrie Lou Boelkes, age 88 of Hartsburg, passed away Thursday, January 27, 2022, at Capital Regional Medical Center in Jefferson City.

 

She was born on June 19, 1933, to Wayne and Grace (Lambeth) Maddox.  She was united in marriage on May 20, 1951, to Walter Boelkes, who preceded her in death on May 4, 2006.

 

Carrie was a devoted Christian and a member of the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in Hartsburg.  She spent many hours with her church family preparing meals for Wednesday evening services.  She was also a member of the Friendship Club and loved gathering with the group for meetings and sharing good food.  In their younger years, Carrie and Walter enjoyed camping with friends and attending bluegrass music events.  She was a caregiver who worked tirelessly taking care of family and friends, however and whenever needed.  After her decline in health, she resided at the Jefferson City Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, where she made many friends, especially her long-time roommate Carol Meister.

 

Carrie is survived by her daughter, Mary Ann (David) Reeter of Jefferson City; a daughter-in-law, Marsha Boelkes of Linn; granddaughters, Sherry (Bruce) Wimberly of Bonnots Mill and Melissa Draffen of Boonville; grandson, Charles Wayne Boelkes, Jr. of Bonnots Mill; great granddaughters, Katherine Lehman, Angie Ablondi, Sheryl Boelkes, and Emma Draffen; great grandsons, Austin Boelkes, Justin Kobusch, Amos Boelkes, and one great great granddaughter, Hailey Holtmeyer.  Carrie is also survived by her Iowa sisters-in-law and many nieces and nephews.

 

Carrie was preceded in death by her husband, Walter; son, Charles Wayne Boelkes, Sr.; an infant son; her parents, Wayne and Grace Maddox; a sister, Peggy Jane Barbarick; and a brother, John Maddox.

 

Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Monday, January 31, 2022, at Morton Chapel in Linn.  Funeral services will follow at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Jim Smith officiating.  Interment will be in the Useful Cemetery. Face coverings are encouraged out of respect for immune-compromised family members.

Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Useful Cemetery.
