David C. Hackmann

David C. Hackmann, age 87, of Chamois, passed away on Thursday, February 5, 2026, at the Missouri Veterans Home in Mexico.

David was born on June 13, 1938, in Booneville, a son of the late Charles and Della (Haase) Hackmann.

He was a 1956 graduate of Normandy High School. He proudly served his country in the United States Army in the 101st Airborne Division.

On September 29, 1962, he was united in marriage to Donna Scheller at The United Church of Christ in Ferguson. Donna survives at their home.

David was an owner/operator over-the-road truck driver hauling diesel fuel and later hauled livestock. He drove over three million miles in his career; his work ethic was outstanding. When he was not driving, he was farming.

After retirement, he drove for the MFA and was a school bus driver for Chamois which he enjoyed. He loved to travel out west, but he especially loved when his family would get together to spend long fun weekends.

David raced stock cars in his younger years. Throughout his life he enjoyed flying small-engine airplanes, riding horses and motorcycles, and spending time outdoors, especially on his farm. He was an incredible storyteller with a great sense of humor.

In addition to his wife of 63 years, David is survived by his five children: Renee Hackmann of Linn; Matthew (Brenda) Hackmann of St. Louis; Raymond Hackmann of Chamois; Patty (Jonathan) Abnos of Peculiar; and William (Crystin) Hackmann of Pensacola, Florida; eleven grandchildren: Kayla Nilges, David Nilges, Joseph Nilges, Josh Hackmann, Caleb Hackmann, Joab Hackmann, Madeleine Hackmann, Mia Abnos, Ava Abnos, Gracie Hackmann, and Charlie Hackmann; five great-grandchildren: Noah, Della, Scottie, Jack, and Autumn; along with nieces, nephews, and friends.

In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert Hackmann and Lester Hackmann, and two sisters, Dorothy Younger and Mary Alice Jaspering.
