Eleanor L. Ruettgers, age 93 formerly of Council Bluffs, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, June 25, 2014, at Villa St. Joseph in Overland Park, Kansas.
Eleanor was born October 8, 1920 in Rich Fountain, a daughter to the late Adolph and Emma (Porting) Ruettgers.
Eleanor worked for the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms for over 35 years and lived in Chicago, Illinois for most of her career. She retired in 1985 and moved to Council Bluffs, Iowa, where she was an active member of St. Peter's Catholic Parish. She was involved in the Social Concerns Committee, as well as many volunteer activities in the community with Meals on Wheels, the Community of Christ Thrift Store and the homeless shelter. She enjoyed watching baseball, especially the St Louis Cardinals, the Toronto Blue Jays and the Baltimore Orioles, spending time with her family and friends and traveling. She was devoted to helping others and she always put everyone else's needs above hers.
Eleanor is survived by many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her seven sisters, Genevieve Eisterhold, Beatrice Conner, Henrietta Palmer, Rita Timmerberg, Irene Zeilmann, Ida Schaefer, Alice Lock and one infant brother, Louis.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 27, 2014, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Loose Creek.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 27, 2014, with Fr. I.C. Medina as the celebrant. Interment will follow in the Immaculate Conception Parish Cemetery.
