Elmer Gene Tyree, age 90, of Linn, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, at SSM Health St. Mary’s in Jefferson City.
Elmer was born on November 21, 1935, in Judge, a son to the late Robert Earl and Ruby Opal (Monroe) Tyree.
He attended Pointer’s Creek School near Linn.
On January 17, 1959, he was united in marriage to Joan E. Green in Bland. Joan preceded him in death on November 20, 1989. Then on May 23, 1998, he was united in marriage to Jackie J. (Francis) Helmig at Solid Rock Baptist Church in Judge. Jackie survives at their home.
Elmer was employed at the pants factory in Linn and Jefferson City. He later went to work at Von Hoffman Press in Jefferson City for forty years, until his retirement in 2005.
He was a very active member of Solid Rock Baptist Church in Judge, where he served as a deacon for over sixty years, Sunday school superintendent and on the Solid Rock Cemetery Board. He was actively involved in the Gasconade Valley Southern Baptist Association. He was a simple, modest, Godly man who never knew a stranger, he would help anyone in need.
Elmer enjoyed playing his guitar, hunting, fishing, working outside in his garden or just being outdoors. He was a jack of all trades, who could fix anything. His greatest enjoyment was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
In addition to his second wife of 28 years, Elmer is survived by seven children, Carl (Lisa) Tyree of Pensacola, Fl., Paul (Julie) Tyree of Denver, Co., Dale (Robin) Tyree of Owensville, Kelly Hale of Jefferson City, John Helmig of Belle, Matt (Darlene) Helmig of Belle and David (Christina) Helmig of Tebbets; twenty-one grandchildren, thirty great grandchildren; two brothers, Herbert Tyree of Linn and Ronnie (Darlene) Tyree of Chamois and one sister, Betty Miller of Linn; along with many nieces, nephews, and friends.
In addition to his parents, and first wife of 30 years, Elmer was preceded in death by two grandsons, Cory Tyree and Cody Patredis.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, at Morton Chapel in Linn.
Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 29, 2026, at Solid Rock Baptist Church in Judge with Pastor Troy Sousa officiating. Interment will be held at Solid Rock Cemetery in Judge.
In Lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to Solid Rock Cemetery in Judge.
