Esther attended grade school at Deer in a one room schoolhouse. She was a 1954 graduate of Chamois High School.

On August 3, 1957, she married the love of her life, Robert G. Schaefer in Hernando, MS. They would have celebrated 65 years of marriage in August of this year. Robert survives at their home.

Esther was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Jefferson City for 55 years. She was also a member of the Osage County Historical Society and the Advantage Travel Club. She loved the many trips she got to take later in life.

Esther was a housewife, seamstress, quilter, and a wonderful cook. When her children were young, she sold Fuller Brush products and worked as a school cook. Later she worked for the Missouri Nurses Association. She was the office manager for Dr. Phillip Wilson’s ophthalmologist office in Jefferson City for many years. She completed her working career at the Osage County Extension office.

In addition to her spouse of 64 years, Esther is survived by: two daughters, Mary (Gary) Zeilman of Frankenstein and Julie Martin of Jefferson City; one son, Paul (Rona) Schaefer of Linn Creek; five grandchildren, Hannah (Nathan) Beckman of Centertown, Sarah Martin of Lee Summit, Sam Martin of Jefferson City, Amelia Schaefer and Sophie Schaefer both of Linn Creek and one great grandchild expected in November of this year.

In addition to her parents, Esther was preceded in death by two infant children as well as her mother-in-law and father-in-law.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 31, 2022, at Morton Chapel in Linn. An additional visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 1, 2022, at Faith Lutheran Church, 2027 Industrial Dr, Jefferson City.

Guestbook

Mary, Julie and Paul, I heard yesterday of your dear mother's passing. I'm so sorry for your loss. The news brought back a flood of memories. Your whole family was so kind to me. Your mother was always willing to welcome me at your table. Memory lane included seeing her at church services and other events at Faith Lutheran we all attended together. She was truly one of the great ones. May her memory be a blessing.
