Gene Garstang

Gene Garstang, age 76 of Chamois, passed away Monday, November 14, 2022, at Harry S. Truman Veterans Hospital in Columbia.

Gene was born March 31, 1946, in Morrison, a son to the late Walden “W.S.” and Elsie (Hartge) Garstang. 

He was a 1964 graduate of Chamois High School.  Gene proudly served his country in the United States Army.

On October 10, 1970, he was united in marriage to Bercina “Fiesty” Ann Buscher. She preceded him in death April 3, 2022.

He was a member of the American Legion Post in Chamois.

Gene enjoyed everything outdoors including fishing, hunting, and gardening. His greatest enjoyment came from spending time with his family especially his grandchildren.

Gene is survived by: four children, G. Chris Garstang of Osage Beach, Angela Dufur and her husband John of Boonville, Neal Garstang and his wife April of Chamois, and Cody Garstang and his wife Adrianna of Ferguson, NC; six grandchildren, Colton, Hayden, and Riley Dufur and Kylie, Emma, and Bentley Garstang; one brother, Jim Garstang and his wife Phyllis of Cape Girardeau; one sister, Carol Rodney of  St. Charles; along with many nieces, nephews, and friends.

In addition to his parents and spouse of 51 years he was preceded in death by a twin brother, Dean. 

Graveside Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 19, 2022, at Oakland Cemetery in Chamois with Gary Ruff officiating. Inurnment will follow with full military honors.
