Gilbert Lee Owens, age 80 of Linn, MO. passed away December 14, 2008 at St. Mary's Health Center in Jefferson City, MO.

He was born on December 23, 1927 to the late Louis and Lola (Prater) Owens in Cooper Hill, MO.

Gilbert served in the US Army from 1946 to 1947. He was involved in the occupation of Japan.

On March 23, 1957 he was united in marriage to Marilyn J. Friedman in East St. Louis, Illinois. She survives of the home.

Gilbert was employed with Chrysler Corporation in Fenton, MO as an assembly worker until his retirement in 1989. He was a member of UAW Local 136 and a member of the Liberty Bible Baptist Church in Linn.

Gilbert was an avid outdoorsman enjoying fishing, hunting and bird watching.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, David M. Owens of Linn, Scott L.A.
Owens of Chamois, Mo; four daughters, Rose K. and her husband Garry Bartlett, Cindy L. and her husband Billy Wilson, Lisa K. Higginbotham all of Linn, Jennie L. and her husband Garry Blevins of Leonard, MO; two sisters Margie M. Schneider of Belle and Jewell and her husband Richard Berhorst of Cooper Hill, MO; a sister-in-law Lula Mae Owens of Linn; 14 grandchildren, 9 step-grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by four brothers and one sister.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 16, 2008 at Morton Chapel in Linn.

Funeral Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 17, 2008 at Liberty Bible Baptist Church in Linn with Rev. Alan Haas officiating.

Interment will follow in the Useful Cemetery with full military honors.
