Guestbook

Even though I only knew Hallie Mantle over the last few years, she made a very positive impact on my life. My maiden name is Mantle and I have lived in So. Cal my entire life and had never run across another Mantle outside of my immediate family. My father and mother divorced when I was very young and our father dropped out of sight so I have no remembrance of any Mantle family. All my life, I felt a deep pain over wondering where my father was and about his side of the family, aunts, uncles, cousins, as I knew he was one of ten children. I often wondered if that side even new I existed because I never had heard from any of them. The last few years I started looking searching on a genealogy site which led me to call up the Historical Society. They put me in touch with Hallie and even though we were from different branches of the family tree that settle there in Linn, she embraced me lovingly like a close family member. We talk on phone as best we could with her bad hearing and exchanged letters a few times. I had the privileged of flying to Mo with my brother and spending hours with her over a few days at the convalescent home. She was caring and made me feel special as she seemed truly interested in me, and with sharing family history. We shared our faith in the Lord together and Hallie always ended her conversation with me by saying something like, ? I wish you and your family the best, God Bless you and I love you. ? She did make me feel loved and accepted by a family I always wanted to know. Hallie has helped heal the feeling of loss and pain of missing family that I never got to know. I will be forever grateful to her for that, and to the Lord, for the privilege to have met her.

My thoughts and prayers are with you. I met Ms. Mantle back in 1973, after marrying her greatnephew Bill Marsh. Over the years we have had sporadic contact, but I always enjoyed our visits and conversations. May she rest in peace.

I am a distant relative and have one of Hallie's family trees tracing the family back to France. Even though I never met her, I have thought of her often and think of her as the keeper of the family history. Her contributions are very valuable.

I remember her watching me when Mom was helping my sisters at school. She was one of best story tellers of all-time. She'll be greatly missed.
