Harvey D. Riegel

Harvey D. Riegel, age 46 of Linn, passed away at his home on Wednesday, January 23, 2013, after a long courageous battle with cancer. Harvey was born May 2, 1966, in Jefferson City, the son of the late Joseph Riegel and Mildred (Bock) Riegel Falter who survives of Freeburg. On June 24, 1995, Harvey was united in marriage to Patty (Loesch) Riegel in Linn. She survives at the home. Harvey worked for Riegel and Voss Construction, ABB for nine years as a material handler, Riegel and Weber Construction, Stanley Riegel Construction and for 18 years at the Missouri Department of Revenue until his illness. He put his heart into every job he held. Harvey loved to hunt and fish, especially with his son, Jared, who he fondly called, "Buddy". He also loved being an assistant coach for his son's soccer team and to watch him play basketball. He drove over fifty thousand miles to car shows and received numerous trophies. He was extremely proud of his 1959 Chevy shortbed stepside truck that he built and his 1967 Chevy shortbed stepside truck. His dream was to build his 1929 two-door Ford sedan into a street rod. He also loved to go to gun shows. Harvey was a very active member of St. George Catholic Church, a member of the Knights of Columbus and Missouri Moonshiners Street Rod Club. He was very proud of his house that he built with his dad, Joe; brother, Stanley; and his great?uncle, Leonard Voss. Harvey was very proud of his son, his wife, and his family and friends that stood by him during his courageous battle with cancer. He was also thankful for his favorite nurse, Kim Looney at Goldschmidt Cancer Center in Jefferson City. Harvey wrote his own obituary before he passed away and he planned his own funeral. He is proud to present his grateful life and accomplishments to you. If you knew Harvey, there were no strangers as he loved to talk, make new friends and to help a stranger. He loved to barbeque and have friends and family to his house to entertain and show his lovely yard that was managed by him with pride. In addition to his wife, Patty, Harvey is survived by: one son, Jared "Buddy" Riegel of the home; his mother and step-father, Mildred and Roman Falter of Freeburg; one brother, Stanley Riegel and his wife Pat of Linn; two sisters, Delores Rose and her husband Paul of Wardsville, and Arlene Taylor and her husband Joe of Jefferson City; three step-sisters, Donna Schmitz and her husband Mark of Argyle, Sandy Bexten and her husband Alvin of Westphalia, and Sara Sarantakos and her husband Paul of Gibson City, IL; and several nieces and nephews. Harvey was preceded in death by his father, Joe Riegel. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 27, 2013, at Morton Chapel in Linn. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, January 28, 2013, at St. George Catholic Church in Linn. Interment will follow in the St. George Parish Cemetery.
