Homer Leo Maassen, age 83, of Linn, passed away on Saturday, May 20, 2017.

He was born on December 4, 1933, in Bonnots Mill, a son to the late Leo and Elizabeth (Boillot) Maassen.

Homer was a 1951 graduate of Loose Creek High School. He attended Officer Candidate School and became a 2nd Lieutenant in the United States Army. After serving in the Army for two years during the Korean Conflict, he returned home and attended the University of Missouri-Columbia, graduating with a BSBA degree in 1961.

On August 15, 1964, he was united in marriage to Linda Joanne Turner at Marvin Park Methodist Church in St. Ann, Missouri.

Homer began his career in banking with the FDIC and worked 12 years as a bank examiner before accepting a position with Linn State Bank (Legends Bank) in 1973, where he worked for 38 years. He was inducted into the 50-year club by the Missouri Bankers Association in 2011.

He was a member of St. George Catholic Church and a member of the Bonnots Mill Knights of Columbus. Homer was also a lifetime member of the Linn Lions Club and a lifetime member of the MU Alumni Association.

Homer enjoyed farming, raising cattle for many years at the Parham Farm near Linn, and watching his grandchildren participate in youth sports. He also loved his alma mater and was a huge Mizzou Tiger sports fan. Homer and Linda have held the same season tickets for Missouri Football for the last 55 years. They were also Missouri Basketball season ticket holders for 28 years.

In addition to his spouse of 52 years, Homer is survived by: two sons, Tom Maassen and his wife Molly of Linn, and Jeff Maassen and his wife Julie of Jefferson City; five grandchildren, Adam and Caleb Maassen of Linn, and Annabelle, Tripp, and Quinn Maassen of Jefferson City; a brother, Victor Maassen and his wife Marcy of St. Peters; and a sister-in-law, Margaret Maassen of St. Charles along with many nieces, nephews and friends.

Homer was preceded in death by five brothers: William F., Harold, Wilfrid, Elmer, and William P. Maassen; a sister, Martha Bret; three sisters-in-law, Marge, Clara, and Ginny Maassen; and a brother-in-law, Clarence Bret.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to Noon on Tuesday, May 30, 2017, at St. George Catholic Church in Linn. Funeral Mass will follow at Noon with Fr. Daniel Merz, Fr. I.C. Medina, Fr. George Kramer and Rev. Floyd Gudde officiating.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to the St. George Capital Campaign Fund or to the American Cancer Society.
