Irene M. Voss, age 103, of Loose Creek, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 25, 2025.
Irene was born on February 6, 1922, in Bonnots Mill, a daughter to the late Joseph and Barbara (Thoenen) Koetting.
She attended Enterprise School (a one room school) near Bonnots Mill, and she was a 1938 graduate of Bonnots Mill High School. After graduating, she began teaching at Enterprise School for the next five years. During the summertime she attended Missouri University College in Rolla for teachers. In 1943, she moved to St. Louis and started working at Rice Stix Clothing Factory and Rite-Point Pencil Factory. She moved back to Bonnots Mill in 1945, to help on the family farm.
On November 24, 1945, she was united in marriage to George J. Voss at St. Louis of France Catholic Church in Bonnots Mill. George preceded her in death on July 14, 1961.
After the death of her parents, she worked for the State Board of Cosmetolgy for one year and then for 16 ½ years for the finance office at the Missouri Department of Corrections retiring in 1991.
Irene was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Loose Creek, the St. Ann’s Sodality and the quilting club.
She enjoyed quilting and making each grandchild and great-grandchild a quilt. She also enjoyed making cookies for them, especially the pumpkin ones. She enjoyed the pears that Mark would bring to her in the fall and canning them along with canning tomatoes. Her greatest enjoyment was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Irene is survived by four daughters, Kathleen Kliethermes of Loose Creek, Clara (Michael) Stephenson of Jefferson City, Georgene Kliethermes of Loose Creek, and Carla (Robert) Oligschlaeger of Jefferson City; 12 grandchildren, Barbara (Jeff) Herigon of Bonnots Mill, Mark (Mandy) Kliethermes of Loose Creek, Natalie (Chris) Wilson of Wardsville, Gwen (Jamie) Bruce of Wardsville, Gabrielle Kliethermes of Wardsville, Caleb Stephenson and friend Ashley of Columbia, Tony (Katharine) Stephenson of Columbia, George (Tricia) Kliethermes of Osage Bend, Kari (Jamie) Estes of Jefferson City, Amy (Dustin) Welch of St. Louis, Justin (Jocelyn) Oligschlaeger of Linn, and Julie (Sam) Gugel of Springfield; 28 great grandchildren, 7 great-great grandchildren with another one due in June; along with many nieces, nephews and friends.
In addition to her parents and husband of 15 years, Irene was preceded in death by two sons-in-law, Ralph Kliethermes and Richard Kliethermes; a grandson, Joseph Kliethermes, one great grandchild, Sydney Schrag and one sister, Wilma Obermark.
Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 2, 2026, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Loose Creek with the Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 11:00 a.m. with Fr. Anthony Rinaldo as the Celebrant. Interment will be held in the St. Louis of France Parish Cemetery in Bonnots Mill.
Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Loose Creek or the wishes of the Family.
