John Lee Strope

John Lee Strope, age 83 of Westphalia, passed away Sunday, June 23, 2019, at Westphalia Hills.

John was born on June 13, 1936, in Linn, a son to the late John J. and Lula Jane (Malan) Strope.

John was a 1954 graduate of Linn High School.  He served his country in the United States Army.

John was the manager at Popp’s Lawn and Garden in Jefferson City for over 20 years. 

He was a member of Mixed Blood Native American Society and President of Blue Bear Corporation. 

John enjoyed music, singing, writing, studying history, gardening, all things Native American and nature related. 

He is survived by: five sons, Keith (Brenda) Strope of Morrison, Greg (Ruth) Strope of Linn, Jeff Strope of Jefferson City, Rodney (Colleen) Strope of Chamois, and Dana Strope of Linn; three daughters, Yvonne (Dale) Haslag of Linn, Kim (Larry) Kever of Bonnots Mill, and Stephanie (Richard) Eichholz of Westphalia; four brothers, Francis (Charlene) Strope of Rich Fountain, David Strope of Fulton, Robert (Irene) Strope of Linn and Stanley (Margaret) Strope of Linn; two sisters, Gertrude “Gert” Peters of Linn and Bridget (Mike) Parkhurst of Linn; 19 grandchildren, 23 great grand children and one great great grandchild; as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by: his spouse, Helen Strope; two brothers, Joe and Ben Strope; and one sister, Elizabeth “Liz” Kennedy.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 26, 2019, at Morton Chapel in Linn.  Funeral Service will follow at 7:00 p.m. with Full Military Honors following the funeral service.

Expressions of sympathy may be made to American Cancer Society or to the family of John Strope.
