Joseph "Joe" L. Orscheln, age 101, of Loose Creek, passed away Sunday, September 25, 2011, at his residence.
Joe was born February 14, 1910, in Loose Creek, a son to the late William and Katherine (Trecker) Orscheln.
Joe attended school in Loose Creek.
On June 28, 1939, he was united in marriage to Ida Mary Voss at St. George Catholic Church in Linn. She preceded him in death on October 3, 1983.
Joe was a self employed carpenter and farmer, raising beef cattle and crops.
Joe was a lifelong area resident and a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Loose Creek. He also was a member of the Men's Holy Name Society and the Loose Creek Community Center Ballpark
He enjoyed fishing, hunting, dominos, and card playing especially Pitch, Preference and Pinnacle.
Joe is survived by: five sons, Arthur Orscheln and his wife Linda of Bonnots Mill, Donald Orscheln and his wife Phyllis of Linn, Harvey Orscheln and his wife Anne of Moberly, Larry Orscheln and his wife Rose of Bonnots Mill, and Melvin Orscheln and his wife Janet of Loose Creek; three daughters, Mary Ellen Chambers and her husband Philip of Linn, Joan McKim and her husband Matt of Loose Creek, Betty Lansford of Linn; one sister, Angie Lock of Holts Summit; one sister-in-law, Ann Orscheln of Jefferson City; 20 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren, three great great grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
In addition to his wife and parents, Joe was preceded in death by: four brothers, Hugo, Henry, Charles and George Orscheln; six sisters, Bertha Backes, Irene Haslag, Gertrude Haslag, Olivia Eickhoff, Luella Kliethermes, and Cora Muenks; three grandchildren, Eric Orscheln, Jessica Lansford, and Dale Orscheln.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 28, 2011, at Morton Chapel in Linn with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 29, 2011 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Loose Creek with Fr. Don Antweiler and Fr. I.C. Medina as the Celebrants. Interment will follow at Immaculate Conception Parish Cemetery.
