Julie Ann Smart

Julie Ann (Mitchell) Smart, age 60, of Mt. Sterling, passed away on Monday, May 5, 2025, at her residence surrounded by her loving family.

Julie was born on June 5, 1964, in Wichita, Kansas, a daughter to the late Eugene Mitchell, Jr. and Barbara (Parmeter) Mannon. Her mother survives in Linn.

Julie known as “Pooh” to her family and friends earned her GED and later attended Butler Community College in El Dorado, Kansas.

On April 16, 2014, she was united in marriage to Ronald Smart in Linn. Ron survives at their residence.

Julie enjoyed being a bartender and a mom. Her favorite time of the year was the summertime and being on the water. She was an avid collector of stuff. Julie had a heart of gold and was always a giver, but she let you know where you stood with her. She was the life of the party who always said that music was food for the soul! She had a lot of faith and was a very honest person. She never turned an animal away. Her greatest enjoyment was spending time with her family and friends.

In addition to her mother and husband of 11 years, Julie is survived by her two children, Lacy (Jesse) Wells of Linn and Steven “Sam” (Katlyn) Maness of Kansas City; four grandchildren, Connor, Brady, Cherish and Ella; two brothers, James Mitchell and Jeffrey Mitchell both of the State of Florida; two sisters, C.J. Young of Linn and Tammy Mitchell of the State of Missouri; along with many nieces, nephews and friends.

In addition to her father, Julie was preceded in death by a grandson, Logan; one brother, David Mitchell and one sister, Shellie Mitchell.

Per Julie’s wishes she has been cremated, and a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

In Lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to the Family of Julie Smart.
