Dr. Linda Susan Claycomb, EdD, MSN, RN

Dr. Linda Susan Claycomb, age 75 of Linn, MO, passed away surrounded by family on Friday, November 10, 2023, at Capital Region Medical Center in Jefferson City, MO.

Linda was born June 25, 1948, in Mount Morris, NY, a daughter to the late David and Helen (Moyer) Johnston.  Linda graduated from high school in Mount Morris.

On June 23, 1989, Linda was united in marriage to Don Claycomb in Sarasota, FL. Their marriage was blessed through the blending of their families – Scott, Sean, Donna, and Dana – and with the birth of their son, Steven.

Linda received her nursing diploma from Highland Hospital School of Nursing in Rochester, NY.  Linda worked as an RN for several years, specifically in the OR, ER, and ICU. She was also a nursing instructor at Sarasota Vocational School, Columbia College, and State Tech in Linn. She also worked in Nursing Administration.  She enjoyed mentoring young nurses as they started their careers. Linda was fondly known as a “nurse’s nurse”.

She was a founding director and grant writer for three different community health centers in Linn, Jefferson City, and Sedalia.

Linda was a faithful church member using her God-given talents with handbells and choir and serving as a Sunday school teacher and on many church committees.

Linda was involved in many community and nursing organizations, including United Way, Woodhaven Learning Center, Zonta, among others. She was a member of multiple national and state organizations, serving at the member and leadership levels.

Linda enjoyed cooking, baking, cake decorating, crafts, reading, playing the clarinet, gardening, being on the farm, decorating for Christmas, and camping, where she and Don served as campground hosts at different state parks around Missouri. She was a sports mom and was a member of both the soccer and baseball booster clubs while living in Jefferson City. Linda’s greatest love, however, was time spent with her children and grandchildren.

In addition to her husband of 34 years, Linda is survived by her mother-in-law, Dorothy Claycomb, of Blythedale; three sons: Scott Blake (Jennifer) of Jefferson City, Sean Blake (Jodi) of Columbia, and Steven Claycomb (Alexandra) of Linn; two stepdaughters: Dana Hill of Denver, CO, and Donna Claycomb-Sokol (Craig) of Alexandria, VA; one sister, Betty Reiber of Pittsford, NY; one brother-in-law, Eddie Claycomb (Sharon) of Princeton, MO; and seven grandchildren: Kayla Hill, Ethan, Abigail, Emily, and Keira Blake, and Scout and Arden Claycomb, as well as nieces, nephews, and many friends.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Friday, December 1, 2023, at State Technical College - Health Science Center in Linn.

A Memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 2, 2023, at St. John's United Methodist Church in Linn with Rev. Kayla Kelly-Beard officiating. Burial will be at a later date.

In lieu of flowers and in keeping with Linda’s legacy of mentoring young nurses, expressions of sympathy are suggested to the Dr. Linda Claycomb Nursing Scholarship through State Technical College in Linn.

One of Linda’s wonderful traits was taking the biggest of strangers and making them feel welcome and not so small. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
