Luella Marie Brune

Luella M. Brune (nee Brandt), age 90, of Rich Fountain fortified with the sacraments of Holy Mother Church on June 2, 2010.

Luella was born July 24, 1919, the second of nine children to Peter and Gertrude (Vasen) Brandt.

As a young teenager, Luella went to work in St. Louis to help support her family. She married Ed Brune, the love of her life, on October 10, 1940, and then worked as a stay at home Mom, raising her four children with great love. After retirement, she and Ed traveled extensively and settled back in Rich Fountain, which had always remained home in their hearts.

An avid gardener, crocheter and crafter, she always found time to be active in her church and was always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. As a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, she will be greatly missed, but never forgotten. In her last years, as her body wore out, her spirit remained strong and her faith never wavered.

Luella is survived by: Edward Brune, her best friend and dear husband of 69 years; her four children, Linda (Dale) Spaulding, Lois (George) Holbrook, Laverne Keating and Dale Brune;
her four grandchildren, Jennifer Frazer, Shelly Swart, Kevin Keating, and Carey Gough; her eight great-grandchildren, Justin, Matthew and Stephen Frazer, Hannah and Cody Gough, Madison and Gavin Swart, and Alyssa Ewing.

She is also survived by: one sister, Helena Lehmen; two brothers, Urban (Mary Jo) Brandt, and Charles (Mary Lou) Brandt; two brothers-in-law, Clarence Mebruer and Harold Eiken; and one sister-in-law, Pauline Brandt.

Luella was preceded in death by: her parents, Peter and Gertrude (Vasen) Brandt; two brothers, Fred and Herbert Brandt; and three sisters, Dolores Veltrop, Mildred Mebruer and Theresa Eiken.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, June 4, 2010, at Morton Chapel in Linn with a prayer service at 4:00 p.m. and a Rosary service at 7:00 p.m.

Additional visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until time of service on Saturday June 5, 2010, at Sacred Heart Church in Rich Fountain. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. with Fr. Philip Niekamp as the Celebrant. Interment will follow at the Sacred Heart Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made for Masses or to Hospice Compassus.

The family wishes to express its gratitude for the wonderful support and generous service of the Sacred Heart Church and school community, neighbors and caregivers. A special thanks to all those from Hospice Compassus for the compassionate care of Luella, which enabled her to remain in her home.
