Margaret Agatha (Bescheinen) Kliethermes, 99, of Loose Creek, passed peacefully on September 6, 2025, at the Auburn Ridge Living Center in Wardsville.
She was born on August 15, 1926, in Loose Creek, the youngest child of Francis “Frank” William and Catherine Elizabeth (Schaefer) Bescheinen.
She married Francis H. Kliethermes, on June 24, 1950, at Immaculate Conception Church in Loose Creek. He preceded her in death on January 29, 2002, after 52 years of marriage. She was a life-long member of the Immaculate Conception Church of Loose Creek.
During World War II, Margaret made cot covers for the Navy in a plant located at the site of the former Jefferson City Distributors. She attended cosmetology school at Mariwood Beauty School in Jefferson City and worked in several salons in California and Columbia. She operated a salon in her home, “Margaret’s Beauty Shop,” in Loose Creek in the 1960’s. Later she worked for the Division of Employment Security for the State of Missouri until her retirement.
Margaret was an accomplished self-taught quilter, well-known for her ability to piece very intricate quilt tops, often designing her own pattern. Her quilts were featured on Loose Creek Picnic quilt auctions for decades. She was an avid traveler after retirement, traveling to all 50 states as well as faraway destinations including Ireland, Germany and Egypt. She loved reading, playing cards and games, and occasionally proving her luck at the riverboats. Hosting family birthdays and meals at her home was a tradition she kept for many years, even into her nineties.
She is survived by her five children: Sharon (John) Gulick of Wardsville, Glen, Tom (Ruth), and Alan Kliethermes of Loose Creek, and Marylin (Jon) Wagner of Parker, CO. and Osage Beach. She is also survived by her four grandchildren, Rachel Gulick of Jefferson City, David Gulick (fiancé Destiny Hannick) of Wright City, and Neil and Brian Kliethermes of Loose Creek; her brother Hubert Bescheinen of Loose Creek and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband of 52 years, Margaret was preceded in death by two sisters, Anna Backes Schaefer and Louise Backes, and three brothers, William, Matthias and Joseph Bescheinen.
The family would like to express their deep appreciation to the staff at Auburn Ridge Living Center for their affection and dedication to making Mom’s last years so happy.
