Margaret Lorraine (Bax) Reinkemeyer passed away at the age of 93 on April 29, 2026, at Aberdeen Village, Olathe, KS, with her family at her bedside.
Margaret (Mikie, Margie) was born April 21, 1933, at home to Alphonse and Teresa (Grellner) Bax in Rich Fountain, MO, the youngest of four children.
She attended Sacred Heart School in Rich Fountain through the 10th grade and later earned her GED. It was in 2nd grade at Sacred Heart that she met Alex Reinkemeyer, who she married on January 15, 1955. Through 71 years of marriage their bond only grew stronger, rooted in devotion, shared purpose and enduring love.
Margaret was a lifelong active member and supporter of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and School. She was a member of the St Ann’s Sodality. She baked her famous chocolate chiffon cakes for picnics, socials, birthdays, charity auctions, etc. One can only imagine how many she baked. Her support of the school ranged from teaching one of the nuns to drive to giving teachers a break by watching over their classrooms.
In her early years of their marriage, she managed the household while Alex managed the farm. She cooked dinner and supper for the hired hands who helped on the dairy farm. After she raised her daughters and the family farm was rented out, she went to work for MFA as an office assistant, alongside Alex, who was the manager, doing whatever needed to be done. While Rich Fountain always remained “home” Alex’s positions with MFA took them to West Plains, Neosho and Sedalia among other locations in Missouri. During those years, she found she enjoyed the real estate business. She took advantage of her experience with purchasing and renting properties during their various postings to become a licensed real estate agent. Margaret loved a bargain and was a great negotiator no matter the size of the purchase or sale.
Margaret and Alex traveled extensively both in the United States and internationally. In later years they particularly liked walking on the warm beaches in South Texas while Missouri still had ice and snow.
Margaret lived her faith daily. She cared for others with a compassionate, open heart. She never sought attention, yet the number of lives she encouraged and helped will never be fully known.
If you ever had the pleasure of meeting her, one would immediately see from her beautiful smile and warm hug a genuine care and concern. Hospitality was always foremost in her mind. When you visited Margaret and Alex you would always receive food and drink. In her mind, feeding people was not just about food, it said “I care about you, and you matter enough for me to give you my time, attention and effort.” This gave her so much joy.
After her faith, she loved her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren fiercely and completely. She always made holidays and birthdays extra special for the one being celebrated. This is a legacy that no title could ever surpass.
She is survived by her husband of 71 years, Alex, two daughters, Mary Reinkemeyer (Barrett Sydnor) of Leawood, KS, and Annie Reinkemeyer, also of Leawood, KS.; three grandchildren, Claudia Potts Alford (James) of Fairway, KS, Alex Potts (Bailey), of Lake Quivira, KS, and Ethan Sydnor of Leawood, KS.; four great grandchildren, Charlie Alford (9) Beau Alford (6), Isla Potts (5) and her namesake, Margaret (Maggie) Potts (3).
Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, Alphonse and Teresa Bax, her brother and sister-in-law, Robert Bax, Sr, and Rosalla, and her sisters and their husbands, Mary Jane Neuner (George) and Mildred Schnieders (Paul).
Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Rich Fountain with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. William Debo as the Celebrant. Interment will follow in Sacred Heart Parish Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, please consider contributions to Sacred Heart School, Rich Fountain, MO.
