Martin D. Carnes, age 64 of Chamois, Mo passed away Wednesday, July 29, 2009 on the family farm where he spent his entire life.

Martin was born on July 25, 1945 in Chamois, a son to the late Adam and Alice (Scheperclaus) Carnes. His mother survives of the home in Chamois.

Martin graduated from Chamois high school. He then went to work on a river boat serving as a deck hand and 1st Mate. He worked on the river boat for many years before retiring and settling down back on the family farm.

Martin had many friends both old and new. He never met a stranger. He enjoyed farming and hunting as well as a variety of sports especially basketball. He was a member of the Chamois Masonic Lodge 185 A.F.& A.M.

In addition to his mother, survivors include, two brothers; Wesley and his wife Clovice Carnes of Chancellor, AL and Theron Carnes of Chamois, three sisters; Marlene Lackman and her husband Stephen of Rhineland, Mo, Karen Finley and her husband Mark of St Louis and Linda Buehrlen and her husband Earl, Jr. of Belle as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by one brother Rodney Carnes.

Visitation will be 4:00pm-8:00pm Saturday, August 1, 2009 at Morton Chapel in Chamois.

Funeral Services will be 2:00pm Sunday, August 2, 2009 at the Deer Creek Church, located four miles south of Chamois on Hwy K, with Rev. Denise Walker officiating.

Interment will follow in the Deer Creek cemetery where the Chamois Masonic Lodge members will conduct their services.

Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Deer Creek Cemetery Fund.
