Mary C. Stegeman, 90, of Loose Creek, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 16, 2017, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born on March 18, 1927, in Loose Creek, a daughter to the late Henry J. and Pauline (Schmitz) Rustemeyer.

Mary was a 1945 graduate from Immaculate Conception High School in Loose Creek.

On August 24, 1948, she was united in marriage to Francis J. Stegeman in Loose Creek.  He preceded her in death on December 8, 2005.

Mary worked for Tweedie Shoe Factory, was a bookkeeper for Rustemeyer Brothers Garage as well as a baby sitter.

Mary was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and St. Ann’s Sodality in Loose Creek.

Mary enjoyed sewing, crocheting, embroidering, making quilts, working puzzles, crosswords, word searches, playing games, as well as gardening and tending to her flowers, and canning. Her greatest joy was spending time with her beloved family and friends.

Mary is survived by: three sons, David Stegeman and wife Deborah of Freeburg, Dennis Stegeman of Loose Creek, John Stegeman and wife Mary Lee of Loose Creek; three daughters, Jean Marie Stegeman of Loose Creek, Paula Ann Plassmeyer and husband Daniel of Loose Creek and Mary Kay Holterman and husband Art of Westphalia; 14 grandchildren, Edie Reichel and husband Brian, Annie Lee and husband Micah, Lori Ann Bruce and husband Greg, Lisa Kremer and husband Shawn, Julie Smith and husband Bradley, Danielle Plassmeyer, James Plassmeyer, Sheila Kleffner and husband Doug, Shelly Stegeman, Cassie Stegeman, Katie Neuner and husband Alex, Jody Stuecken and husband Noland, Christopher Stegeman and wife Amelia, Ben Holterman; 24 great grandchildren and one due in May; four sisters-in-law, Dorothy Rustemeyer of Bonnots Mill, Martha Stegeman of Taos, Marietta Schaefer and husband Francis of Loose Creek, Margie Haslag and husband Conrad of Loose Creek; one brother-in-law, Celsus Stegeman and wife Joannie of Folk along with many nieces, nephews and friends.  

In addition to her parents and spouse of 57 years, Mary was preceded in death by: three brothers, Ferd, Clem and Cletus Rustemeyer; two sisters-in-law, Norma Sandbothe and husband Charles, Lydia Luecke and husband Ray; two brothers-in-law, Eugenius Stegeman and Ralph Stegeman.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 19, 2017, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Morton Chapel in Linn.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, December 20, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Loose Creek with the Rev. Callistus C. Okoroji as the celebrant.  Interment will be held in the Immaculate Conception Parish Cemetery.

Expressions of sympathy may be made to Immaculate Conception Catholic Church or School.
