Philip J. Thoenen, age 95, of Loose Creek, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 8, 2025, at his residence surrounded by his loving family.
Phil was born on August 14, 1930, in Frankenstein, a son to the late Frank and Johanna (Kremer) Thoenen.
He attended St. Mary’s School in Frankenstein. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict and was on the front lines when the call for “cease fire” was given.
On June 16, 1956, he was united in marriage to Elizabeth “Betty” Balkenbusch at St. George Catholic Church in Linn. Betty survives at their home.
Phil worked for several area mills driving a feed truck. He then worked for McGraw Edison before moving to a job at Paul Lage Cabinet Shop in Jefferson City. Phil then left to start Phil Thoenen and Sons Cabinet Shop in 1968, which his sons, Dale and Dan run today. He loved to pass on his knowledge to his employees and family. He always looked forward to visiting with customers and friends.
He was a very devoted member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Loose Creek and Linn VFW Post 4756.
Phil enjoyed gardening, especially blackberries, cutting grass and helping around the parish. He was very self-sufficient, loved butchering, and processing his own meat and vegetables. Phil always enjoyed Betty’s homemade cooking, having homemade bread and butter sandwiches with every meal. His greatest enjoyment was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
In addition to his wife of 69 years, Phil is survived by his children, Rose Thoenen of Jefferson City, Robert Thoenen of Boring, Oregon, Mary Ruth (Dale) Kliethermes of Linn, Rita (Steve) Schanzmeyer of Westphalia, Dale (Suzanne) Thoenen of Loose Creek and Dan Thoenen and friend Jennifer Sieg of Loose Creek; thirteen grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; one brother, Fred (Theresa) Thoenen of Frankenstein; one sister, Clare Laughlin of St. Louis; a sister-in-law, Mary Lou Thoenen of Linn; along with many nieces, nephews and friends.
In addition to his parents, Phil was preceded in death by sister, Mildred Ogle and one brother, Wilfred Thoenen.
