Raymond G. Edwards

Raymond "Ray" G. Edwards, age 82 of Chamois, MO. passed away Tuesday, December 16, 2008 at his residence.

He was born March 12, 1926 in Rich Fountain, MO to the late Rudolph N. and Gertrude (Talken) Edwards.

On September 15, 1945 he was united in marriage to Verna K. Suess in Chamois. She preceded him in death on September 7, 2000.

During his working years, Ray drove a livestock truck and then ran a house to house milk route and became a milk distributor in his later years. Ray also served as a rural mail carrier for 50 years.

For many years, Ray was an alderman for the City of Chamois and then was elected Mayor and served for ten years.

Ray never met a stranger. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, bowling, mushroom hunting and loved spending time with his children and grandchildren.

He was a member of the Most Pure Heart of Mary Church in Chamois, Mo.

Survivors include: two sons, Carl D. and his wife Melody Edwards of Peru, IN and Michael R. and his wife Marlene Edwards of Chamois; one daughter, Denise "Dinky" G. and her husband Earl Hegerfeld of Chamois; two brothers, Rudolph "Rudy" J. and wife Betsy Edwards of Jefferson City and Robert "Bob" and wife JoAnn Edwards of Rolla, MO.; four sisters, Sr. LaLande (Marie) S.S.N.D. of St. Louis, MO., Alice and her husband Freddie Nilges of Linn, Ann and her husband Al Fick of Colorado Springs, CO. and Gladys and her husband Lawrence Rudroff of Linn; one brother-in-law Bert Fick of Rich Fountain; ten grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.

Ray was preceded in death by one brother, Ralph Edwards and one sister, Evelyn Fick.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, December 18, 2008 at Morton Chapel in Chamois.

Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, December 19, 2008 at the Most Pure Heart of Mary Church in Chamois with Fr. Patrick Dowling officiating.

Interment will follow at the Most Pure Heart of Mary Church Cemetery.
