Raymond R. Mitchem, age 79, of Chamois, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 25, 2026, at his residence surrounded by his family.
Raymond was born on December 20, 1946, in Chamois, a son to the late Archie Raymond and Laura Mae (Branson) Mitchem.
He attended Osage County R-1 School in Chamois. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam Conflict.
On November 16, 1968, he was united in marriage to Joan Sieg at First Baptist Church in Chamois. Joan survives at their residence.
Raymond owned and operated the R & J Tavern in Chamois from 1986 until 1994. He was employed at ABB in Jefferson City as a welder for 37 years until his retirement in 2009.
He was of the Christian faith and was a member of the Chamois American Legion Post 507 and was a former volunteer firefighter with the Chamois Fire Department.
Raymond was an avid NASCAR fan and enjoyed cooking, being outdoors, joking around and aggravating people. If he didn’t like you then he wouldn’t pick on you. His greatest enjoyment was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, Joan of 57 years, Raymond is survived by his three children, Kenneth (Samantha) Mitchem of Chamois, Lisa (Scott) Branson of Chamois, and James “Jim” (Amy) Mitchem of Jefferson City; eight grandchildren, Zackery (Carolanne) Branson, Jacob (Maddie) Branson, Seth (Abby) Mitchem, Julissa Mitchem and partner Bradley Roddy, Kendall Mitchem, Faith Mitchem, Mark Mitchem and Quinn Mitchem; one great grandson, Callum Branson; four brothers, Ed (Carmen) Mitchem of Chamois, Delmar (Rhonda) Mitchem of Chamois, Bob Mitchem of Chamois, and Homer Mitchem of Linn; one sister, Elsie (John) Weed of Chamois; two sisters-in-law, Diane Mitchem of Chamois and Mary Jane Mitchem of Chamois; his mother-in-law, Ruby Sieg of Westphalia; along with many nieces, nephews and friends.
In addition to his parents, Raymond was preceded in death by one son, Mark Raymond Mitchem; two brothers, Andrew Mitchem and John Mitchem and his father-in-law, Stanley Sieg.
Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Monday, June 29, 2026, at Morton Chapel in Chamois with Funeral Service to follow at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Jeremiah Abell officiating. Private Interment with Full Military Honors will follow in the South Cemetery near Chamois.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to American Legion Post #506 in Chamois or to South Cemetery near Chamois.
