Rita Catherine Backues

Rita C. Backues, age 85 of Linn, passed away March 19, 2018, at NorthPark Village in Ozark.

Rita was born August 1, 1932, in St. Louis, a daughter to the late Christopher and Eva (Held) Kornberger.

Rita graduated Rosendale High School in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin. 

On May 3, 1968, she was united in marriage to Alvin Backues in Linn.  He preceded her in death on September 25, 2012.

Rita was a member of the Linn Family Worship Center and had previously attended First Assembly of God in Jefferson City and Community Christian Church in Linn.

Rita was a homemaker and enjoyed baking, gardening, staying up on politics, reading her Bible and fishing.  The simple life of living in the country, spending time on her porch, feeding the birds and doing little projects with her husband, Al, made her happy.

Rita is survived by: two sons, Andrew Backues and his wife Julie of Jefferson City and Steven Backues and his wife Nancy of Ozark; a daughter, Ann Marie Davis and her husband Marc of Hawthorn Woods, IL; one brother, Paul Kornberger and his wife Kathy of Wildwood; three sisters, Joan Barrett and her husband Walter of Linn, Ann Kontoleon and her husband Gus of St. Louis, and Eva Rogge and her husband Lee of Seattle, WA; six grandchildren, Ashley Schmitz, Emily Marion, Morgan and Amanda Davis, Olivia and Levi Backues; three great grandchildren, Maggie, Ellie and Penelope Schmitz along with many nieces, nephews and friends.

In addition to her parents and spouse of 44 years, she was preceded in death by a brother, Joe Kornberger.

Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Friday, March 23, 2018, at Morton Chapel in Linn.  Funeral services will follow at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Matt Lee officiating.  Interment will be in the Linn Public Cemetery.
