Robert J. Strope, Sr.

Robert J. Strope, Sr., age 82, of Linn, passed away on Sunday, May 17, 2026, at his residence.

Robert was born on November 17, 1943, in Linn, a son to the late John J. and Lula J. (Malan) Strope.

He was a 1961 graduate of Linn High School.

On May 8, 1965, Robert was united in marriage to Irene Luebbert at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Rich Fountain. Irene survives at their home.

Robert was a hard-working mason, he started working for his father, then started his own business and later went to work for his son, Kirby. He was also a farmer.

He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Rich Fountain, the Rich Fountain Knights of Columbus Council # 10690 and the Msgr. Ralph Kutz Fourth Degree Assembly #2811.

Robert enjoyed farming, gardening, fishing, talking, watching westerns especially Gun Smoke, telling jokes, tinkering on projects, playing cards especially Preference. His greatest enjoyment was spending time with his family, especially picking on them. If he didn’t pick on you, he didn’t like you.

In addition to his wife of 61 years, Robert, is survived by his four children, Robert “Robbie” (Amy) Strope of Linn, Monica Strope of Linn, Scott (Shauna) Strope of Bonnots Mill, Kirby (Jenni) Strope of Linn and William “Bill” Strope of Linn; 23 grandchildren, Elisha (Zach) Rogers, Tamara (Tom Catron) Wilson, Seth (Kayla) Strope, Kieara (Dalton) Shoemate, Haily (Jimmy) Cooper, Kyle (McKenzie) Strope, Allen (Mindy) Burnett, Kassie (Derek) Johnston, Mary Jo (Bryson Dudenhoeffner) Feller, Curt (Maddie Mast) Strope, Adam (Ally) Strope, Lauren (Cody) Schollmeyer, Sydney (Cody) Colter, Lily (Hunter Haslag) Strope, Leighann (Jacob) Monaghan, Lynnze (Lane McKim) Horan, Alec (Carson) Strope, Drew (Marissa Lawry) Strope, Samatha Evers, Jasmine (Savannah) Burd, and Kole (Haley White) Evers; 16 great grandchildren, Maycee, Jace, Rainah, Winston, Emerson, Hayden, Stetson, Rowyn, Carter, Blair, Dawson, Taven, JC, Ben, Nylah, Auriella, and three on the way; three brothers, Francis Strope of Rich Fountain, David Strope and his girlfriend Juanita of Fulton, and Stanley (Margaret) Strope of Linn; a brother-in-law, Michael Parkhurst of Linn; along with several nieces, nephews, and friends.

In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by three brothers, Joe, Ben and John Strope; three sisters, Elizabeth “Liz” Kennedy, Gertrude “Gert” Peters, and Bridget Parkhurst; and two sisters-in-law, Annabelle Strope and Charlene Strope.

Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 22, 2026, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Rich Fountain with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. William D. Debo as the Celebrant. Interment will follow in Sacred Heart Parish Cemetery.
