Rose M. Porting Lahr, age 89, of Jefferson City, passed away on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, at Heisinger Bluffs Senior Living Center.
Rose was born on November 1, 1936, in Chamois, the second daughter of the late Joseph A. and Clara J. (Troesser) Koenigsfeld.
Rose was a 1954 graduate of Fatima High School.
On June 30, 1956, she was married to Frederick William “Fred” Porting at Our Lady Help of Christians Catholic Church in Frankenstein. To this union four children were born. Fred preceded Rose in death on September 7, 1979. She was united in marriage to Joseph P. Lahr on August 22, 1980, in Jefferson City. Joseph preceded her in death on July 20, 1997. Rose fell in love again and was united in marriage to Gilbert L. Talken on December 26, 2014, in Jefferson City. Gilbert preceded her in death on August 27, 2019.
While in high school, Rose was employed at St. Mary’s Hospital in Jefferson City. In 1957, she went to work for Dr. John I. Matthews at Internal Medicine as a lab technician. She retired in 1994 after 37 years of service, serving in various positions, including office manager. Rose and her husband, Joseph, owned and operated J and R Supply in Linn. After Joe’s death, Rose lovingly cared for several elderly individuals.
Rose was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Jefferson City, Saint Ann’s Sodality, the Loretta Immaculate Club, served on the Bereavement Committee and served as a Eucharistic minister. Rose was a life member of St. Mary’s Health Center Auxiliary, serving on the Auxiliary Board for 8 years.
Rose enjoyed gardening, making floral decorations, working on word search puzzles, and playing dominoes. Her greatest enjoyment was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Rose is survived by her four children, Charlene Dowell, Carl (Sue) Porting, and Maria Stockman, all of Jefferson City, and Jon (Nichole) Porting of Parkville, Missouri. She is also survived by six grandchildren, Rachel (Matt) Winingear, Megan (Matt) Luebbert, Andrew (MaryJo) Porting, Zach Porting, Nicholas Porting, and Emma Porting; six great grandchildren, Lily Porting, Kyle Winingear, Haley Winingear, Hazel Luebbert, Greyson Luebbert, and Slate Luebbert; and seven siblings, Ann Goeke, LaVerne Lage, George Koenigsfeld (Sarah), Marilyn Herigon, Leon Koenigsfeld (Eileen), Frances Veltrop, and Andy Koenigsfeld (Mary Pat), along with many nieces, nephews, and friends.
In addition to her parents and husbands, Rose was preceded in death by one sister, Sister Viola Koenigsfeld, SSND, two brothers, Raymond Koenigsfeld, and Clarence Koenigsfeld, along with brothers-in-law Fred Goeke, Paul Lage, Marvin Herigon, and Harold “Butch” Veltrop.
Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 12, 2026, at Morton Chapel in Linn.
An additional visitation will be held from 10:00 am to 11:00 a.m. on Monday, April 13, 2026, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Jefferson City with a Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Walter Kispotta as the Celebrant. Entombment will be held at Resurrection Cemetery in Jefferson City.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that expressions of sympathy may be made to the American Diabetes Association or the Goldschmidt Cancer Center in Jefferson City.
