John Edward Thoenen

January 31, 1952 ~ March 29, 2020 (age 68)


John Edward Thoenen, age 68, of Linn, passed away on Sunday, March 29, 2020, at his residence.

John was born on January 31, 1952, in Jefferson City, a son to the late Edward “Ed” and Betty “Bets” (Schaefer) Thoenen.

John attended St. Mary’s Catholic School in Frankenstein and was a 1970 graduate of Fatima High School. 

On February 18, 1978, he was united in marriage to Sarah (Dudenhoeffer) Thoenen at St. George Catholic Church in Linn.  Sarah survives at their residence. 

John was employed for Capital Region Medical Center in Jefferson City for over 35 years as the Plant Supervisor.

John was a member of St. George Catholic Church in Linn.

John enjoyed hunting, golf, traveling, gardening with his flowers and plants, cooking, making wine, playing cards especially the Preference tournaments and loved to find Menards deals.  He enjoyed driving the tractor and working on the farm, he was always willing to help people and loved telling jokes.  But most of all he loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

In addition to his spouse of forty-two years, John is survived by: two sons, David (Emily) Thoenen of Krakow and James (Abby) Denny of Cushing, OK; a daughter, Carissa (Colin) Duewell of Jefferson City;  six grandchildren, Kyle and Claire Duewell, Isabella and Kierstin VonBehren and Broderick and Jayce Thoenen; four brothers, Jim (Merilee) Thoenen of Linn, Joe (Donna) Thoenen of Linn, Jeff (Peggy) Thoenen of Willard and Ed (Stacy) Thoenen of Linn; four sisters, Peggy (John) Hemeyer of Frankford, Ruth (Dennis) Block of Loose Creek, Rose Thoenen of Loose Creek and Jean Hall of Jefferson City; a sister-in-law, Betty Thoenen of Frankenstein, along with many nieces, nephews and friends. 

In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by a brother, Jerry Thoenen, a nephew, Chad Thoenen, and a niece, Melissa Block.

Private Family Service will be held.  A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.  Interment will be held at St. George Parish Cemetery in Linn.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to American Red Cross.
