Mary Jane Butler

Mary Jane Butler

Mary Jane Plante Butler, age 79 of Belle, passed away Thursday, March 5, 2020, at SSM Health St. Mary’s in Jefferson City.

Mary was born August 22, 1940 in Chester County Pennsylvania, a daughter to the late Romeo and Margaret (Weber) Plante.

She was a 1958 graduate of Lowell High School located in Massachusetts.

On August 22, 1959, she was united in marriage to Marion “Sonny” Elwood Butler in Lowell, MA.  He preceded her in death on October 5, 1995.

Mary was a homemaker and mother to her “monkey pile” of ten, Warren, Tracey, Nora, Lisa, Elizabeth, Caroline, Dora, Timothy, Richard and Paulette.  She was a strong woman, wife and mother and a great role model for all.  We will always love and miss her.

A loving mother to all, she always welcomed cousins and friends into her home. We will never forget her famous boiled meatloaf.   Mary taught all of her kids to crochet and play the organ.  She loved to sing.  She was the only person that I have ever seen who could rig a car battery up to a TV so that her children could watch Christmas specials when they had no electricity.

She collected Elvis, Star Trek, elephant and horse memorabilia. We always joked and told her that if she would have just waited it out she could have had one elephant to deal with instead of 10 children.

Mary is survived by:  seven children, Warren (Carla) Butler of Belle, Tracey (Charlie) Creswell of Belle, Nora Butler of Clinton, MO, Lisa (Harold Jr.) Gould of Bland, Elizabeth Butler of Kansas City, Caroline (Jerry) Calvin of Columbia, and Richard (Rose) Butler of St. Clair, MO;  28 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren; one sister, Paulette Boucher of Lowell, MA and many nieces and nephews.  Mary and Marion…a very strong legacy they have.

In addition to her parents and spouse of 36 years, Mary was preceded in death by: one son, Timothy Butler, two daughters, Dora and Paulette Butler; one brother, Leo Plante; and two sisters, Margaret Sawtelle and Jeannette Hedlund.
