Ray Jahnsen, 80, of Mt. Sterling, passed away on Saturday, November 2, 2019, at his residence.

Ray was born on January 12, 1939, in Catawissa, Missouri a son to the late Lester P. and Marie Alma (Bolte) Jahnsen.

Ray was a 1953 graduate of St. Anthony School in High Ridge, Missouri.  He served in the United States Air Force. 

On May 9, 1959, he was united in marriage to Marilyn Ann (Steinkamp) Jahnsen at Holy Family Catholic Church in St. Louis. She survives at their residence. 

Ray was a bricklayer for 42 years for St. Louis Local 1 Bricklayers Union.

Ray was a member of St. George Catholic Church in Linn, Bricklayers Union and the N.R.A.

Ray enjoyed farming, hunting, mechanics, music especially the accordion, harmonica and piano. 

In addition to his spouse of 60 years, Ray is survived by two sons, Keith Jahnsen and his wife Rosaire of Bland and Gary Jahnsen and his wife Rheannon of Linn; two daughters, Christine Carr and her husband Tim of Mt. Sterling and Mandy Sharp and her husband Steven of St. Louis; twenty five grandchildren, twenty-nine great grandchildren; a brother, John Jahnsen and his wife Dorothy of Bland; two sisters, Mary Margaret O’Brien of House Springs and Helen Salamone and her husband Dave of Cedar Hill; three sisters-in-law, Josephine Jahnsen of  Cedar Hill, Pauletta Jahnsen of Bland and Janis Jahnsen of Owensville; along with many nieces, nephews and friends. 

In addition to his parents, Ray was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Tayla Rae; three brothers, Leo, Tony and Kenny Jahnsen; a sister, Dorothy O’Brien and two brothers-in-law, Gene and Jack O’Brien. 

Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 5, 2019, at Community Christian Church near Linn. 

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 6, 2019, at St. George Catholic Church in Linn with Rev. Daniel J. Merz as the celebrant.  Interment will follow in the Giedinghagen Cemetery near Mt. Sterling. 

Expressions of sympathy may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
